Getting Started

dawn-smallAncient Architects has gone live. It’s still in the construction phase – there are a number of toolkits I would like to add, and I’m certain that there are also numerous further articles about CRPG design hidden around the web. There may also be minor technical errors, please excuse.

The general idea is that over time, this shall become the lighthouse for the design of homegrown CRPGs. Pretty ambitious, I know, but it’s not like I have a lot of competition, right? For more information, please visit the About section.

Happy crafting!

    Hi Ancient Architect,

I already contact your email address, it’s error 503 or something like that. Anyways, I would like to inform you of missing links to the game and editor. In addition, virustotal.com says that there’s malware in the games. Even in the new website, there’s still malware. I can’t risk a bad .bat list of commands to just go. Lastly, there should be a linux/flatpak/flathub/appimage port for the games and editors.

I am looking forward to the progress of sprites, tiles, music, game design, and editor.

Hi, thanks for writing! There was a reason I removed the links, but after repeated inquiries I will put them back up.

Also thanks for the virustotal.com notification. However, I’m not sure this isn’t actually a false positive, given that VBA is apparently the only one of 30+ scanners showing an alert. As for the website, could you elaborate? For me, virustotal.com doesn’t show an alert for ancient-architects.com. I’m also not sure why you got a 503 response, I receive emails from other players without issues.

Lastly, I have to regretfully admit that the chance for a Linux port are extremely small. The potential audience sadly just doesn’t justify the necessary work. Generally speaking, it’s possible that I will do a re-release on a commercial platform with new music, but otherwise the Dark Disciples games will most likely remain in the state they are now. Hope this doesn’t stop you from having fun.

Maybe for the website, there is no malware, but for the games themselves, the windows 10 executable is considered malware to virustotal.com. Personally, I hope there isn’t any .bat list of commands that may accidentally run malware without notification.

You would have to do a file scan for the .zip archive package to find potential malicious activities. Reanalyze might be necessary from time to time.

    Here is an example.

To see all the information, you have to check on the details, relations, behavior, and community tabs as well. I’ll worry about the email problem later.
